In a follow up to my previous post on the iPhone 4′s attenuation issues (link) – it appears Apple have admitted that it was not the software nor the size of the reception bars. It was – gosh, shock, horror – a design fault, the antenna attenuation issue is real, and to make everything better, instead of recalling, redesigning and re-issuing the phone, Apple is going to go one better – they are offering a free bumper case to iPhone 4 purchasers out to September 30…. nice call Apple, now your sleek new redesigned iPhone 4 can live it’s life out under plastice, so that purchasers can actually make phone calls….LOL…

As technology progresses and devices get smaller and smaller, heat is always going to be an issue – therefore, we should not overlook cooling for devices which can improve the quality of access to the internet. As you are all no doubt aware the iPhone 4 arrived recently with much fanfare and massive lines of cool aid drinkers vying to be one of the first to get this revolutionary, original, fantastic reception boasting, phone in their hot little hands. However all is not well in kool-aidville, as Apple has worked hard to PR over the shortcomings of the telephones design, mainly in the antenna – which is suffering from ‘death grip’ reception issues. Apple’s solution? Blame the software, blame the grip – sell some rubber cases, and make the reception bars bigger….. the next thing you know, they will be calling it a ‘feature’!! PS3 ‘Move’ Preview

Posted by Andrew Chapman | Posted in Gaming | Posted on 13-07-2010-05-2008

Sony et al have recently been spruiking the Playstation’s answer to the WiiMote. Named the Move, it consists of two parts – the navigation controller (below left) and the motion controller (right). Would you believe it, they will be sold separately (WTF) with the motion controller costing $69.95 (AUD) and the navigation controller costing $49.95…. in case your wallet isn’t feeling enough pain by then – you also use the Playstation Eye camera with the Move – also sold separately for $39.95…  Hopefully we (the European region) will see a good combo, including a decent game which shows the capabilities – think Wii Sports for around the $100 sweet spot.

Just Because I Like Call of Duty…

Does NOT mean that I like the contempt with which Activision treat their customers…

I am a casual PS3 gamer, I like to unwind after a hard day at the office with a beer or two, and a few rounds of my current favourite Activision release – Modern Warfare 2. I bought the game for what I consider a ‘high – yet reasonable’ price, of about a hundred Australian Dollars. But when I see Downloadable Content (DLC) after DLC which offers next to nothing, and hear about the online ranting going on by the Activisin CEO Bobby Kotick re pricing inter alia, I get really pissed off… Read the rest of this entry »

Google ‘green’ initiatives

Posted by Andrew Chapman | Posted in Internet, Technology | Posted on 10-07-2010-05-2008

How many Google searches have you done today? Or for that matter how many kettles have you boiled? Why the questions? Well, it appears that a study has been undertaken at Harvard University which is suggesting that the average Google search consumes about as much power as boiling a kettle, and, produces 7 grams of CO2. I would like to ‘explore’ these findings and also have a look at some of Google’s green initiatives, and some of their more outlandish ideas to help reduce their impact on the planet. This tutorial will teach you all you need to know about using your Nintendo Wii to play AVI Files and DVD’s, using the Hombrew Channel, a new release of MPlayer Wii, and a USB drive (or DVD of course). This will work on Wii’s which have the Homebrew Channel installed, which requires the Twilight Princess Hack to install. This hack will allow you to access a whle bunch of new and useful software to get the most out of your Wii. You do not need a modchip installed to get this to work, the current Wii Firmware at the time of this post is 3.4u.
